Royal Air Maroc

As the national flag carrier of the Kingdom of Morocco, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is the gateway to Africa and a vital link connecting continents. Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Morocco, we offer a unique travel experience characterized by warm Moroccan hospitality, a growing global network, and a commitment to modern aviation standards. From our main hub in Casablanca, we proudly serve a diverse range of destinations across Africa, Europe, North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East.

Our Story: From Regional Connectivity to Global Alliance

Royal Air Maroc’s history dates back to July 1953 with the merger of two existing Moroccan air transport companies: Compagnie Chérifienne de’l Air (Air Atlas) and Compagnie Chérifienne de Transports Aériens Air Maroc. The newly formed entity, then known as Compagnie Nationale de Transports Aériens, quickly established itself as a key player in connecting Morocco domestically and to nearby European and African destinations.

On June 28, 1957, the airline officially adopted its current name, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), reflecting its status as the national carrier. The subsequent decades saw significant expansion, with the introduction of jet aircraft like the Caravelle in the early 1960s and later the Boeing 727, 747, and 767, which enabled the airline to launch long-haul routes to North America and expand its African network. RAM played a crucial role in developing air links between Morocco and the rest of the world, fostering tourism and trade.

A defining moment in Royal Air Maroc’s recent history was its official entry into the oneworld alliance on April 1, 2020. This significant milestone made Royal Air Maroc the first African airline to join this prestigious global alliance, vastly expanding its reach and offering seamless connectivity to its passengers across the world through its oneworld partners. This move solidified RAM’s position as a major player in African aviation and its commitment to international cooperation.

Today, Royal Air Maroc continues to modernize its fleet and services, upholding its mission to be a leading airline connecting Africa to the world.

Leadership and Ownership

Royal Air Maroc is a state-owned enterprise, with the Government of Morocco holding the majority stake (over 53.94%), alongside other public entities like the Hassan II Fund (44.10%) and some private investors. This strong government backing underscores the airline’s strategic importance to Morocco’s national development, tourism, and diplomatic ties.

Mr. Abdelhamid Addou serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Royal Air Maroc. He leads the airline’s strategic initiatives, focusing on network expansion, fleet modernization, and enhancing the customer experience, particularly as the airline integrates deeper into the oneworld alliance. The airline’s headquarters are located in Casablanca, Morocco.

Royal Air Maroc also operates a number of subsidiaries, including:

  • RAM Express: For regional flights.
  • RAM Handling: For ground handling services.
  • RAM Cargo: For freight operations.

Our Fleet: Modern, Versatile, and Growing

Royal Air Maroc operates a modern and growing fleet, primarily composed of Boeing aircraft for its mainline operations, complemented by regional jets and turboprops. The airline has been investing in new-generation aircraft to enhance fuel efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and improve the passenger experience. The fleet generally includes:

  • Boeing 787 Dreamliner (787-8 and 787-9): These are the flagships of Royal Air Maroc’s long-haul fleet, known for their fuel efficiency, passenger comfort features (such as lower cabin altitude and higher humidity), and modern cabins. They are crucial for transatlantic and other long-range routes. Royal Air Maroc was notably the first African airline to operate the Boeing 787.
  • Boeing 737-800: These narrow-body aircraft form the backbone of RAM’s extensive short to medium-haul network, serving routes across Europe, North Africa, and West Africa.
  • Boeing 737 MAX 8: The latest generation of Boeing’s single-aisle aircraft, offering improved fuel efficiency and a modern cabin for regional and some longer-range flights.
  • Embraer E190: These regional jets provide efficient service on thinner routes within Morocco and to nearby international destinations.
  • ATR 72-600: These turboprop aircraft are essential for connecting smaller cities and regional airports within Morocco, complementing the jet network.

Royal Air Maroc continues to strategically acquire new aircraft to meet its growing network demands and replace older models, ensuring a modern and reliable fleet for its passengers.
