Aeroméxico

As the flag carrier of Mexico, Aeroméxico embodies the vibrant spirit and rich culture of its nation, serving as a vital link between Mexico and destinations across the globe. From our main hub in Mexico City, we offer an extensive network that spans North, South, and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Aeroméxico is committed to providing a distinct travel experience, blending Mexican hospitality with modern aviation excellence.
Our Story: From Pioneering Flights to Global Alliances
Aeroméxico’s journey began on September 14, 1934, when it was founded as “Aeronaves de México S.A. de C.V.” Its inaugural flight took off from Mexico City to Acapulco, marking the start of a rich history in Mexican aviation. In its early decades, the airline steadily expanded its domestic routes, playing a crucial role in connecting Mexico’s diverse regions.
The 1950s saw Aeroméxico inaugurate its first international route to New York, signaling its ambition for global reach. With the advent of jet aircraft like the Douglas DC-8, the airline began crossing transatlantic skies, with its first flight to Europe (Madrid) in 1961. The 1970s brought further fleet modernization with wide-body aircraft like the Douglas DC-10, enhancing its international capabilities. The airline officially changed its commercial name to Aeroméxico in 1972.
Aeroméxico has navigated various phases, including a period of privatization in the late 1980s. A pivotal moment in its global strategy came in 2000 when Aeroméxico became a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance, alongside Air France, Delta Air Lines, and Korean Air. This alliance significantly expanded its international footprint, offering passengers seamless connectivity to over 1,000 destinations worldwide. In 2015, Aeroméxico became the first Latin American airline to operate non-stop flights to Asia, showcasing its modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet and its commitment to long-haul innovation.
Today, Aeroméxico stands as a testament to Mexican resilience and progress, continuously evolving its services and network to meet the demands of global travel. The airline completed a successful restructuring process and emerged from Chapter 11 proceedings in March 2022, reinforcing its long-term stability.

The airline’s headquarters are located in Torre MAPFRE on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, Mexico.

Our Fleet: Advanced Technology and Modern Comfort
Aeroméxico operates a modern, fuel-efficient, and largely Boeing-centric fleet for its mainline operations, complemented by Embraer aircraft for regional services. The airline is committed to ongoing fleet renewal to enhance passenger comfort, reduce environmental impact, and improve operational efficiency. The fleet generally includes:
- Boeing 787 Dreamliner (787-8 and 787-9): These are the flagships of Aeroméxico’s long-haul international fleet. Known for their advanced technology, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort features (such as lower cabin altitude, higher humidity, and larger windows), they operate routes to Europe, Asia, and the farthest points in the Americas. Many are equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi and personal entertainment screens.
- Boeing 737 MAX (737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9): These next-generation narrow-body aircraft are central to Aeroméxico’s domestic, U.S., Canadian, and Central American networks. They offer improved fuel efficiency, a quieter cabin, and enhanced comfort with Sky Interiors, LED lighting, and personal screens. Aeroméxico operates the largest fleet of 737 MAX aircraft in Latin America.
- Boeing 737-800: These reliable narrow-body aircraft continue to serve a significant portion of Aeroméxico’s domestic and short to medium-haul international routes, many featuring updated cabins.
- Embraer E190: These regional jets, operated by Aeroméxico Connect, are crucial for connecting smaller cities and regional airports across Mexico, feeding into Aeroméxico’s main hubs.
Aeroméxico is continually evaluating options to further modernize its fleet, including potential replacements for older 737-800s and Embraer 190s with more 737 MAX units.
